History Reflection

How effectively did I communicate how childhood has been experienced in history through my research?
DESIGN
The process of creating the display for my Museum of Childhood was very enjoyable, and I believe that the final outcome conveyed the childhood of Ancient Egyptian children in an appealing and educational manner. I tried to maintain a balance between aesthetics and information. Although I do feel like the information could have been condensed into a smaller amount, overall, the display was relatively well balanced and pleasing to the eye.
I used sand for the base of the display and included pyramids, houses and the River Nile in my display to portray an Ancient Egyptian setting. Although I was happy with the idea of these additions to the display, I do feel like my pyramids were too small, as they were diminutive compared to other objects, which is not an accurate representation. I used a papyrus template to type up the information, to again add to that Ancient Egyptian feel, and stuck all the information and pictures onto black cardboard to bring them out and reinforce them against all the artefacts and colours. The black tablecloth provided a strong backdrop to enhance the colours in my display.

HISTORICAL COMMUNICATION
The pictures and the artefacts related to the topic well, and I put them near their respective pieces of information so viewers could refer to them to further understand the information. I separated my display into three basic sections; early childhood, later stages, and the section on Cleopatra. This was so that viewers could read the information in an orderly fashion, and also so that information could be organised well. This communicates the information well to the audience, as it is systematic and understandable, and viewers would feel like they are not being bombarded with random pieces of information.
One way I think I could have improved the way my information was conveyed was to put a subheading onto each strip of information, to emphasise what the particular piece of paper informed viewers about. For example, if I had a piece of information about toys, I should have put the subheading “toys.” This would have made the display even more orderly, and give viewers a category to to group the information they have absorbed into, so as not to confuse them.
The QR codes enhanced the project, because it opened up space for me to put my artefacts. Originally, I was going to keep all information in hard copy on the display, I thought it would be a good idea to include some on my website. This creates another source of information that people could look at online
I think the display covered nearly the right amount of information for a project like this; it had to be brief, because there were lots of topics to be covered in Ancient Egyptian culture. It was difficult to balance the
e information that was provided by sources, because sometimes there was too much and I was unsure what to include and what to not. I have to say, I am very content with the final project that came out.
